Regional trails: let’s connect our territory 🌿🚶♂️
A vision looking to the future
Since the 2023 local governance reform, the KRSC has been mandated with supporting municipalities in developing large-scale projects, specifically in the areas of sports, recreation, and cultural infrastructure. One theme that has consistently emerged among identified needs is the desire for a regional network of active trails. Although several multi-use trails already exist in the region (refer to the Trail Guide), they are often isolated from one another.
To address this, the KRSC has included in its action plan the implementation of a preliminary study to assess the interest and commitment to creating a regional network of active trails.

Why a trail network?
Because every citizen deserves easy access to nature, opportunities for physical activity, and places to meet. A connected trail network would:
- Stimulate the local economy through recreational tourism
- Provide new options for active transportation between communities
- Encourage a healthier lifestyle by promoting time spent in nature
- Enhance connections between our villages and improve our natural landscapes
A collaborative approach
Since 2023, the KRSC has been working in collaboration with municipalities, regional partners, and development experts to:
- Inventory existing trails
- Identify opportunities for connecting villages
- Assess the needs and priorities of the population
